Case study: watch me apply each step to a real book
There’s no magic to becoming a bestselling author. You don’t need to be special, and you don’t need to be famous.
One of my clients was a brand new executive coach, starting out in a new industry. Despite his having…
I was able to launch his book to #2 Bestseller. Two months later, that book was still on charts, selling well and bringing in leads for his new business.
But most authors never hit the bestseller charts. In fact, most self-published books sell fewer than 100 copies in the entire lifetime of the book—including the author’s mom and cats.
Why does that happen? It mostly boils down to three problems.
A lot of people think that, if a book is good, it will sell itself. When their book doesn’t, they assume that means it must not be that good after all.
It’s understandable to think that. “Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door,” right?
The problem is: how is the world supposed to buy your book if they don’t know about it yet?
With over 48 million books on Amazon, it’s just not possible for a book to sell itself—no matter how good it is.
Let’s face it, some self-published books are terrible. Those books don’t deserve to become bestsellers. If your book is bad, please hire a professional editor to fix it and make it good before you publish it.
But if your book is good, don’t give up just because it hasn’t sold yet! You’re probably stuck on one of the two problems I’ll address next.
If you knew Oprah, it would be easy to sell your book, right? Just get your bestie to mention it on her show or recommend it in her book club, and poof! Instant bestseller.
It’s easy for famous people to sell books, no doubt about that. All they have to do is tell their followers they’re releasing a new book, and their fans run out to buy it in droves.
But you don’t have to be famous to sell books or become a bestselling author. You may not have your own pre-built audience of perfectly primed book buyers, but that’s ok.
You can rent someone else’s audience of perfectly primed book buyers.
Seriously, there are websites where people sign up to be notified about new books in their favorite genres—specifically because they want to buy more of them. Many of those websites will rent you a spot in their promotion schedule for less than $50.
This type of promotion is outrageously effective, because you’re getting your book in front of the exact people who already want to buy books like yours. If you’ve done a good job on your Amazon page, many of them will buy it!
There’s no need to spend months or years trying to engineer your own fame when you can rent someone else’s for so little money, and this works even if you’re brand new, you have no email list, and nobody has ever heard of you.
I hear you on this one. I used to hate marketing—mainly because I had no idea how to do it. To me, it looked like some kind of unsolvable puzzle, cracked only by special lucky unicorns and the illuminatti.
I found it so frustrating and infuriating. I can’t even tell you all the time I wasted, banging my head against the wall and doing more and more of everything that doesn’t work. I just wanted to get back to writing.
But then I learned how to do it right. That changed everything.
It turns out there’s a repeatable process to launching a book to bestseller.
Better yet, it’s only 6 steps!
Once you know what to do, all you have to do is put in a little work to do it, and voila! Your book can become a besteseller—even if you’ve never sold anything before in your life, and nobody has ever heard of you.
Everything seems like magic when you don’t know how it works. But when you do, it turns out to be surprisingly simple.
My first bestseller client hit these bestseller rankings, despite no email list, no PR, no following, and no connections:
My book had been sitting in Amazon’s graveyard for five years before I launched it. By following this system, I was able to hit:
My first book also camps at the top of its categories, week in and week out.
It’s not just my books or my clients’ books. In 2020, I hosted a certification program to train 10 people in this system. Their clients’ books also became bestsellers, including many #1s, tons of top-10 rankings, and a few international bestsellers.
And if you want to do that, I’ve got something to help.
In just five days, I’ll guide you through planning your launch and getting everything ready to go, so you can launch your book to bestseller!
A lot of people procrastinate launching their books. I procrastinated mine for five years. (I wish I were exaggerating!)
To stop that from happening, you need two things.
1. You need to know what you’re doing, so you can feel confident that you’re doing it right and it will work.
2. You need structure to help you track your progress and finish the steps.
That’s why I’ve set up the 5-Day Launch Intensive to support you.
A simple lesson that will show you exactly how to complete that day’s task for your book.
Notes and worksheets/checklists to guide you step by step, so you can complete the task with confidence, knowing you won’t miss anything.
Supplemental videos to give you more details, examples, or demos for the day’s task. These videos are optional, but they’re there for you in case you want more depth or case studies.
My goal with this intensive is to make it as quick, easy, and efficient as possible, so you can do the most crucial tasks, skip everything that doesn’t matter, and get your launch set up quickly.
But if you need more time, that’s ok, too. Need to take 5 weeks or even 5 months? No problem. You’ll have lifetime access to this program, so you can go at your own pace and use it as many times as you want.
(Once you learn this process, you may choose to relaunch your book a few times a year to spike sales. Just go through the intensive again. After the first time, most of the work is already done, so it gets super easy!)
The 5-Day Launch Intensive, complete with lessons, notes, worksheets, checklists, and supplemental videos, so you can get everything ready to go for your bestseller launch.
Bonus: Zombie Book Launch: watch me apply this exact process (recorded live) to get my own book ready to launch. (As a result, my book (which hadn’t sold in five years) hit #1 bestseller in 8 categories in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.)
Bonus: How to get free PR for your book (Want to get free publicity like podcast interviews and guest posts to gain exposure for yourself as well as your book? This guide will show you how!)
Bonus: How to build a street team as a first-time author (Want to multiply the impact of your launch, get more reviews for your book, and mobilize people to help you spread the word during your launch? This is the guide for you!)
Bonus: What to do if something goes wrong (Even the most expert marketers don’t hit a home run on the first try every time. If you’re not getting the results you want right away, this guide will show you how to know what’s going wrong, and what to do to fix it.)
And it’s worth it. Becoming a bestselling author is priceless. If you’re in business, even if it helps you win just one new client, it’s more than paid for itself. And that’s not counting the value of the visibility and authority that come with being a bestselling author.
If you write fiction, it’s harder to justify spending $6,400 up front on your book launch, but there’s no question that becoming a bestselling author would help you build your fan base and make it easier to sell all of your future books.
Either way, if someone had handed me this system back when I was starting out, I would have paid thousands—and it would have paid for itself many times over, between the impact on my career and all the time I would have saved. And now you can get the whole system, boiled down into a 5-day intensive, so you can use it to launch your own book to bestseller.
That was my first thought. I just finished taking a similar program on a different aspect of marketing myself, and I paid $1,500 for it. Based on that, $1,000 seemed about right for the 5-Day Launch Intensive.
But I want to give you every chance I can to have the best of success with your book. This program is really good, and I want as many people to get in and use it as possible.
I decided to set the price at $497. But when you join before the timer runs out, you can save $300 and get in for only $197. Just use the coupon code SPEEDY!
I’m tired of watching people like you and me put everything we have into writing the best books we can, only to have them sell 15 copies—while terrible books take off just because they have great marketing.
I want to level the playing field. And giving you this information is the best way I know to do that.
If you want your next book to become a bestseller, and you’re ready to focus on what works and ditch what doesn’t, this intensive is for you. Just fill in your information at the bottom of this page to get instant access now.
Will your book get the same kind of result I've gotten for my books and my clients? Well, as I mentioned before, most self-published books sells fewer than 100 copies. Most authors have no idea how to market their books, so they either take the “publish and pray” approach, or they spend tons of effort on things that don’t move the needle. The result is: their books don’t sell.
I can’t tell you how your book will do. But I can tell you that, if you follow this system and it doesn’t work, I’ll refund your money.
If you implement everything that I show you in this program, and your book does not become a bestseller on Amazon, I will give you 100% of your money back. I'm so confident, I'll give you a whole year to try it.
Cara Stein is an idealist who has stopped trying to play it cool. She believes the only reason people don’t like business or marketing is that they don’t know how to do it well—yet. She's often praised for her no-bullshit style and her wry humor.
Cara has been helping people finish and publish their books since 2012. She’s guided over 200 books through the publishing process. She’s also the bestselling author of five books of her own, including How to be Happy (No Fairy Dust or Moonbeams Required), Getting Unstuck, and Finish and Publish: Write the Book You’ve Always Wanted to Write. Her peeves include chipmunks, fakery, and the word “peeve.”
