There’s no magic to becoming a bestselling author. You don’t need to be special, and you don’t need to be famous.

One of my clients was a brand new executive coach, starting out in a new industry. Despite his having…

But most authors never hit the bestseller charts. In fact, most self-published books sell fewer than 100 copies in the entire lifetime of the book—including the author’s mom and cats.

Why does that happen? It mostly boils down to three problems.

Problem 1: The book sucks.

A lot of people think that, if a book is good, it will sell itself. When their book doesn’t, they assume that means it must not be that good after all.

It’s understandable to think that. “Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door,” right?

The problem is: how is the world supposed to buy your book if they don’t know about it yet?

With over 48 million books on Amazon, it’s just not possible for a book to sell itself—no matter how good it is.

Let’s face it, some self-published books are terrible. Those books don’t deserve to become bestsellers. If your book is bad, please hire a professional editor to fix it and make it good before you publish it.

But if your book is good, don’t give up just because it hasn’t sold yet! You’re probably stuck on one of the two problems I’ll address next.

Problem 2: I’m not famous.

If you knew Oprah, it would be easy to sell your book, right? Just get your bestie to mention it on her show or recommend it in her book club, and poof! Instant bestseller.

It’s easy for famous people to sell books, no doubt about that. All they have to do is tell their followers they’re releasing a new book, and their fans run out to buy it in droves.

But you don’t have to be famous to sell books or become a bestselling author. You may not have your own pre-built audience of perfectly primed book buyers, but that’s ok.

You can rent someone else’s audience of perfectly primed book buyers.

Seriously, there are websites where people sign up to be notified about new books in their favorite genres—specifically because they want to buy more of them. Many of those websites will rent you a spot in their promotion schedule for less than $50.

This type of promotion is outrageously effective, because you’re getting your book in front of the exact people who already want to buy books like yours. If you’ve done a good job on your Amazon page, many of them will buy it!

There’s no need to spend months or years trying to engineer your own fame when you can rent someone else’s for so little money, and this works even if you’re brand new, you have no email list, and nobody has ever heard of you.

Problem 3: Marketing is hard.

I hear you on this one. I used to hate marketing—mainly because I had no idea how to do it. To me, it looked like some kind of unsolvable puzzle, cracked only by special lucky unicorns and the illuminatti.

I found it so frustrating and infuriating. I can’t even tell you all the time I wasted, banging my head against the wall and doing more and more of everything that doesn’t work. I just wanted to get back to writing.

But then I learned how to do it right. That changed everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean I can launch my book 5 days from now?

No, it means you can finish doing everything to set up the launch within five days. Some of the ads I recommend need to be booked two weeks or more in advance. If you still have to publish your book, you need a new cover design, or you don't have enough reviews yet, you'll also need to allow time for those things. But this intensive is still the fastest way I know to get everything set up and ready for your launch.

Does this work for fiction or non-fiction? What about children's books?

Yes, yes, and yes. Although non-fiction is the easiest to sell, the same basic elements go into selling any book—things like having a professional cover design, writing compelling sales copy, and getting the book in front of the right people. For the parts that are different, the blueprint gives specific recommendations for fiction and for non-fiction.

What if my book is already out?

No problem. You can still use these strategies to re-launch it (or launch it for the first time). You will have a slight disadvantage in that Amazon factors the average sales over the last 30 days into its Bestseller rankings, so if your book has been out for longer than 30 days and not selling, you'll have to sell more copies than you otherwise would to get the same ranking. That makes it a little harder, but it's still very doable.

Will this work if my book is traditionally published, or is it only for self-published books?

Unfortunately, with a traditional publisher or a hybrid publisher, you don't have control over the decision to implement most of the strategies in this system. This product is intended for self-published authors.

What if I'm an expert marketer, I've been in the publishing industry for years, or my books are already selling like hotcakes? Is this for me?

Why should I care if my book is a bestseller?

In order for your book to be that book for your readers, it has to sell. Launching your book to bestseller is the first step in making an impact.

What if I hate marketing?

Two things:
1. There's a good chance you think marketing has to be pushy, manipulative, and/or evil. That's not true at all. Ideally, marketing is the process of helping people get what they need or want. If your readers would benefit from reading your book, then letting them know about it is HELPING them get what they want or need. And that's all marketing is. If you don't market your book, you'll actually be doing a disservice to the people who would benefit from reading it.

2. If marketing isn't something you enjoy, then you’ll probably want to get the best results possible with the least wasted effort. I recommend joining this intensive right away.

Do I need a big mailing list or social media following to become a bestseller?

Those things always help, but no. I got a book to #2 bestseller for an author with no following at all.
